fReQreport for

The Spring Nationals
 18th-20th  April 2008
Shakespeare County Raceway

How do you describe such a successful weekend?
Any summary could only conclude that the entire weekend was ‘a collection of best bits’ :-)
The team summary of the event was finally agreed as  ‘It’s good to be back.’

Despite the bitterly cold wind and rain stopping the action on Sunday the team managed to get onto the track on Saturday afternoon for long enough to ensure that the new set up for the racecar is very effective.
A combination of firmer rear tyres, the new cooling system, a higher octane fuel mix and some other mechanical ‘tweaks’ got a strong 11.9 sec run on its first outing this year.

However, this was after a fuelling problem and an issue with the starter motor were identified in a frustrating few hours during the pre race preparation.

fReQmikey was spotted ‘keeping out of the way’ while Andy and Dave Budhha diagnosed the problems. Safely repaired the car started, passed the official safety checks and was taken to the start line at mid-day.

Under strict instruction to just do a gentle ‘check out’ pass fReQmikey waited to comfortably see the green light and drove the car away from the line on cold tyres, having also opted for only a shallow burn out from the edge of the box.
The car pulled hard all the way to the finish line and beyond but also remained arrow straight throughout.
Back in the pits no leaks or problems were found and the engine temp was ideal for a full aggressive pass and so the car was made ready to go out again.

Sadly, before another run could be completed the weather fairy sprinkled her magic lotion on everything and all slick tyre vehicles were excluded from the track. However, for fReQracing the weekend still contained some notable successes. Further analysis of the figures provided by the track timing equipment showed that the car was accelerating more at the middle and top end of the track than has been previously recorded. The terminal speed of 121mph, given the relaxed launch and cold engine/fluids, suggests that a competitive pass would achieve a high 10sec run.

Further development of the ‘Out There’ youthwork project was achieved and stronger links with the partner organisations were gained; this including a team commitment to continue with the promotion and fundraising activities of the MS Trust for the remainder of the season.

Strong links were also established with the National Supertwins association and Junior Dragbike associations and a new media company who are keen to assist in the team promotion were taking pic’s throughout the weekend.
All the fReQ’s are looking forward to Round 2 – May 31-June 1 at Shakespeare County Raceway.
