The target identified ‘risks’ are faced during the transition to adulthood;
through the social ‘responsibility’ which is granted at various ages during the lives of ‘young people’.

The sessions are based around the young person’s ability to obtain such things as
credit cards,
driving licences,
and alcohol
all of which lead to risks of them becoming more vulnerable to various forms of social and personal ‘danger’.

The sessions are guided by a presentation and other prompts/activities, designed to encourage participation and develop an active sense of personal and social responsibility.
This is achieved through giving both clear advice and practical information.

The sessions have been developed in order to meet several key requirements outlined in the ‘Every Child Matters’ legistlation and follow established youthwork practices of ‘early intervention’ and the provision of alternative learning opportunities.

Beverley Hughes, Minister for Children and Young People is keen to ensure that young people ‘stay on track - both by improving the support and opportunities available to them and offering challenge when it is needed.’ [source Targeted youth support, a guide. Dfes2007]

The sessions provide support and guidance and enable young people to constructively assess potential risks to their future welfare. They also offer youthwork professionals the opportunity for future sessions/forums and to provide the neccesary welfare information and support required by Govt legistlation.

Support of the Out There project and fReQracing will ensure that young people are provided with the opportunity to ‘Stay on Track’…
